Stand with Alaska’s Federal Employees

We stand with Alaska’s federal employees and we’re asking our elected officials to do the same. We support Alaska’s federal workforce and want the indiscriminate cuts to stop.

Alaska’s federal employees do important work and they are our neighbors.

These mass firings and proposed cuts compromise Alaska’s safety, stability and prosperity. These actions hurt individuals, families, communities, our state and our economy.

The tactics DOGE is using are menancing and likely illegal.

DOGE has already fired thousands of dedicated federal employees across government agencies and are planning more firings soon.

A federal workers union said it expects at least 1,378 federal employees in Alaska with probationary status to be fired by the Trump administration. Of those, 331 are veterans. If all of those workers lost their jobs, the loss in wages would total more than $88 million, according to a union estimate.

The White House budget office and the Office of Personnel Management also recently circulated a memo calling for "large-scale reductions" to the federal work force in March and April.

Alaska is one of the states with the highest percent of federal employees in its workforce, which according to a recent estimate by the Alaska Department of Labor totals about 15,000.

Economists say losing federal jobs could have a profound effect statewide, disrupting important work and services, causing hardship, forcing an outmigration of labor and talent, and stunting opportunities. â€‹

What can we do about it?

We are not powerless. More than 2,200 Alaskans, or friends of Alaskans, signed on to a newspaper ad in support of Alaska’s federal workforce. The newspaper ad ran in the Anchorage Daily News on Sunday, March 2, with the names of those who have signed on in support. View the ad here. We will also be running digital ads.

It's not too late to sign on in support! Please add your name using the link below. We will add all of the names to this website, so our elected officials know we stand with Alaska's federal workers.

Your voice and this support matters – we must do whatever we can to encourage our elected officials to take action.

Share the ad with elected officials, and ask them to push back against these mass firings.

Ask Sen. Murkowski, Sen. Sullivan and Rep. Begich to do the following:

  • Hold town halls about the cuts.

  • Oppose any budget or spending bills unless it includes a binding tool to block DOGE’s firings and lawless dismantling of federal agencies.

  • Meet with federal agencies and compile information about the important work our federal workers do for Alaska and the nation.

  • Provide information about the importance of federal workers in Alaska to DOGE, the Trump administration and other members of Congress.

  • Ask them to hold congressional hearings about the impact of these federal cuts on a certain topic (public lands, rural services, health care, public safety, education, etc).

We urge you to contact Alaska’s Congressional delegation today – and ask them what their plan is to stop these firings and cuts! Calling is effective and easy, but you can also try to schedule a meeting or drop by a congressional office near you and fill out a comment card.

We suggest saving time by adding all all three elected officials phone numbers to your phone contacts (both DC and your local office) so you can call often and whenever you’re thinking about it!

You can call ANY of these numbers – talk to a staff member OR leave a message. Tell them you are a constituent and that you’d like a response so that they’ll record your name and comments.
